A year of change — in the world, and in hardcore. As the second wave of OG NYHC began to fade, a new movement was taking shape: what would later be known as post-hardcore. Lament was born out of that moment. Formed by members of influential bands like Maximum Penalty, Breakdown, Social Disorder, Sarcasm and First Order, Lament took the raw power of 1980s New York hardcore and pushed it forward with a new energy and sound.
In 1991, Lament signed to independent label Inner Journey Records, home to bands such as Clutch, No Escape, Sub Zero, Release and Dunamis. Throughout the early 1990s, Lament toured extensively, sharing stages with peers including Merauder, Sub Zero, Darkside and Starkweather.
Now, for the first time in 35 years, a complete time capsule of Lament’s debut release Drowning Room is available — featuring previously unreleased tracks from the original recording sessions, fully remixed and remastered.
